Re: Lesson Plans DB/Electronic Portfolio

We are in the process of building a system exactly like what you describe. An early prototype is described (and in use) here: http://educon20.com/artifact/creating-activities-and-units/70

I talked about this kind of functionality at Educon earlier this year.

As we see it, the ability to import lessons from different sources, remix them easily within the site, and then reuse them in different contexts is the key. By empowering the creativity of the educator, removing barriers from sharing and remixing, and simplifying the process of using the lessons elsewhere, an organization using this platform can provide teachers with a tool that helps create some common institutional knowledge about what is occurring across the curriculum.

Also, this platform is built on top of open source tools, and every component of it is freely available. At the very least, we will document how to build a site like this; we are still deciding whether we want to commit to supporting a downloadable application. We built this app in Drupal.

Cheers,

Bill

Subject: Lesson Plans DB/Electronic Portfolio

We want to design a database/electronic portfolio that is a depository
for teacher lesson plans and is to be used as a reference for teachers
in the future. For example, if an English teacher has done a lesson on
the Odyssey, then a Latin teacher could go into the portfolio to see
what type of lessons the English department (and other disciplines) have
done on the Odyssey.

Has anyone implemented such a resource and if so, what applications do
you recommend?
