hinese Cultural Identities is a 5-week Summer Residential Institute funde=

by the National Endowment for the Humanities, and hosted by the Asian Stu=
d
ies Development Program, a partnership between the East-West Center and U=
n
iversity of Hawai=A1=A6i.
This Institute will make use of the rich history and imaginaire of the Si=
l
k Roads as a way of examining how global interconnectedness shapes and is=
=20
shaped by culture, focusing in particular on how China=A1=A6s complex rel=
ation
ships with other cultures=A1Xmediated by both overland and oceanic =A1=A7=
silk ro
ads=A1=A8=A1Xhas been crucial to the emergence of distinctively Chinese c=
ultures
over the last two millennia.
Dates: May 24-June 25, 2010
Deadline: March 2, 2010 (post-mark)
NEH Stipend: Participants will receive a total stipend of $3900 to help m=
e
et costs associated with attending the Institute, including travel, housi=

g (East-West Center guest house), meals, and required Institute texts.=20
