Re: Leveraging Professional Development

Dear Peter and ISED-L Colleagues,

I have always thought sharing what's learned from a conference or workshop is a great idea, even when budgets are not tight, although the execution sometimes is spotty.

What if there were a Ning or a Wiki or (for Peter) a Moodle space or a FirstClass conference with a placeholder for each of the conferences/workshops being attended. The first posting could be the teacher/admin giving a link to the workshop/conference with an overview of why they are attending. If there were live blogging or tweeting by the teacher/admin that could also be included. And when he/she returns a full posting of the session(s) and their educational value. For the final posting it might be helpful to use the format I use with my graduate students - S - A - O - Q. S=Summary of the conference/workshop. A=Analysis - what was useful, unique, etc. about the conference/workshop O = Opinion, "In my opinion, I felt this could work in the following classrooms and disciplines .." and Q = Questions that arise from the experience.

Of course, if nothing like this has been done there will be a transitional period. However, enriching your learning community by members coming back with specific ideas, feedback, and things that may work in the classroom will float all boats.

Best regards,
Pamela
