With tuition ever rising, independent schools are under increased
pressure to offer more and more for their students and families. And
yet, the Great Recession has pinched school budgets tighter and made
schools stretch their dollars further.=20
On the positive side, it has also made schools think more creatively
about their resources and their programs. Part of the promise of online
education is to be able to offer more courses for less money. However,
as an independent school leader, you need to make sure that any online
courses that you have your students take meet your high standards for
excellence. This is where partnering with the Online School for Girls
(OSG) can help. By becoming a charter affiliate of the OSG, your school
gains access for your students to a great range of supplemental
courses-- the types of courses that are tough to staff or prohibitively
expensive to offer. Moreover, the courses are designed by exceptional
girls' school teachers, administered by excellent girls' school
administrators, and driven by sound independent-school pedagogy (small
class sized and researched-based approaches). And, charter affiliate
schools get 10% discounted off the price of tuition.=20
Consider this scenario, five of your students would love to take AP
Computer Science. Running the course would help the students explore a
budding interest, and give them the opportunity to start college
computer science courses on an advanced track. However, you do the math
and realize that it would cost you a lot to staff that course. If the
teacher that you would have teach the course makes $55000, and this was
1/4 of their workload, you would be paying almost $14000 to run the
course. However, if you were, instead, to allow students to take the
course through the Online School for Girls, the total tuition for five
students would be $6500 ($5850 if your school was a Charter Affiliate).=20

Courses for 2010-2011 and Tuition Prices
A few months ago, OSG asked teachers at consortium member and charter
affiliate schools to propose courses for the 2010-2011 school year. We
were impressed with the inventive and thoughtful courses proposed by
teachers at some of the nation's best girls' schools. We chose a
variety of courses in math, science, humanities, and art that we believe
will meet the needs of your school and students.
The Online School for Girls is proud to announce courses for the
2010-2011 school year. The full course catalog is available at
http://www.onlineschoolforgirls.org/docs/OSG%20Course%20Catalog%202010-2
011.pdf. Tuition for the 2010-2011 school year is $650 for a semester
course and $1300 for a year course. Charter affiliates get a 10%
discount on tuition for their schools. For information on registration,
