Re: Girls avoid "techie stuff"?

Hi all,

I've been teaching Film Studies (high school) for seven years, and I
usually have some girls every year. They have no problem with the tech
stuff and actually do better than most boys with the concepts of editing,
storytelling, etc. One note: many famous editors in Hollywood are women.
I've had several female students move on to top film schools for directing
and editing.

I agree that its not about the tools, its about the presentation. When I
teach film (both production and analysis), the girls get it. They see the
importance of storytelling, editing, lighting, etc. The boys mostly do as
well, but the girls in my classes have never had problems working with (or
competing against) the boys.

Can't speak for Middle School - that's a whole different mind set, but at
the HS level its not a problem if you manage it well.
