Re: any ideas for a 1 shot computer class?

Amy, believe it or not I am in nearly the same position and was wondering
the same thing. We have just implemented our 1:1 program using MacBooks so
I have been using that time to familiarize the students with the new laptops
and the mac os operating system. After a couple classes, however, that has
seemed to run its course.

Just yesterday, I showed the students the homemade interactive whiteboard
video by Johnny Lee that he so generously posted on youtube (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5s5EvhHy7eQ). I then had them research how
to construct the necessary equipment and put together a shopping list. I am
going to give it a go myself first, but the goal is to have them lay out a
plan, implement it, then reflect on it and tweak if necessary.

They are already very excited about it and I made sure not to promise them
any results but that we are going to do our best. So in effect, I am using
our time more as a motivator to learn more about technology. Our school
curriculum is very hands-on so I found this to be a perfect fit. I hope
that gave you an idea or two and I would love to hear what others have to
say.
