Progressive? A cheerful challenge!

Some of our schools call themselves progressive, and we all know of
educationally progressive things that are happening in our hallways. But
what is a "progressive school"?

In an act of shameless self-promotion but equally in the spirit of genuine
inquiry on this topic, I have posted a challenge for all of us on the New
Progressivism blog <http://newprogressivism.blogspot.com>: Is your school
progressive? The challenge comes with a small refresher course on the
roots of progressive education, and a sidebar link will take readers to an
EdWeek online Commentary piece from this past spring that lays out the
principles of "The New Progressivism."

I invite ISEDers to ponder the question and to offer up examples of
"progressive education"--old or new--that we can all point to as models of
first-class, forward-thinking educational practice.

You are of course invited to root around elsewhere in the blog, as well.

The goal here is both edification AND enjoyment.

Cheers--Peter Gow
