A few standards that are focused more on 1:1 than Tablets:
Growing Up Digital, 1998, Don Tapscott; The World is Flat, 2005, Thomas
L. Friedman; "Journal for Technology, Learning and Assessment" (JTLA),
2005; 1:1 Computing in Maine: A State Profile, Lemke, C. and Martin, C.,
2003; Learning for the 21st Century: A Report and Mile Guide for 21st
Century Skills, www.21centuryskills.org.; and Developing a Research
Agenda for Ubiquitous Computing in Schools, Zucker, Andrew A., 2004.
Also, look for research on the AALF.org database. Good stuff there.
Also consider:
The Impact of Tablet PCs and Pen-based Technology on Education, 2007:
Beyond the Tipping Point is now available for purchase through
amazon.com for $16.47. Edited by Dave A. Berque, Jane C. Prey, and
Robert H. Reed. ISBN: 1-55753-461-6
Sorry for the rather undeveloped response. I'm slim on time today but I
thought I'd at least drop some references. I would suspect some of the
Tablet schools have even better answers. Oh! As Fred reminded us
earlier the http://isenet.ning.com/ community has great stuff. They
have a Tablet group.
Take care,

Subject: Tablet 1-1 justification
Hi,
I have a faculty member that "can't find any educational reason to
justify 1-1 computing at the middle school level". His contention is
that middle school curriculum is better suited to traditional methods,
and that many times technology is more about "cool" than actual
learning. His statement is that often students learn more by putting
project on poster board by hand than they do with a powerpoint and that
some teachers would not notice that the content is not in the
powerpoint. He also said that he can't think of any advantage to using
a tablet in 6th. grade math.
I'd appreciate anything and everything to provide him with some
alternative things to think about.
Thank you,
