Re: Tablet 1-1 justification

Hi, Demetri,

Thank you for your reply. I'll certainly read through all the links you =
gave me.

Getting our "skeptical teacher" to participate in an online discussion is =
a wonderful idea. I'll see if I can get him to join us. He is willing to =
be convinced, but at this point is not convinced so we just have to give =
him enough data and examples. God willing I'll get him to join the =
discussion on Friday or Monday (we are expecting a little freezing rain =
tonight and in rural Virginia that is enough to close school for a day).

Again, thank you for the references.

Hi Sister Elizabeth,

It is good to recognize the importance of having a clearly articulated
rationale that identifies advantages of 1-1 computing, and your faculty
member should be praised for demanding an explanation. Accordingly, he
should also have an open mind to consider the capabilities that these
tools offer. The "Rationale for Technology in Education" page on the
school computing wiki is where I synthesize ideas on this issue:
http://schoolcomputing.wikia.com/wiki/Rationale_for_Technology_in_Educat
ion It builds on the great work of Fred Bartels and M.D. Roblyer among
others. We welcome more collaborative additions on this page! I've also
posted a list specifically about 1:1 Tablet Advantages that is linked on
the bottom of that page.=20

It might be interesting to ask your skeptical teacher to participate in
online discussion about this topic. The independent schools community
ning: ISEnet ("ice net") would be enriched by a robust discussion on the
pros & cons of 1:1 technology. There is also a group on ISEnet named
"Tech Triumphs & Tribulations" for this discussion.
http://isenet.ning.com/group/techtriumphstribulations I've begun a
conversation there which focuses on the phrase "actual learning" -- What
is "actual learning?" Enjoying the conversation,

Demetri

Ps. As an ISED-L "Digest format" reader, I am often a day behind on
discussions, and I just want to mention the appreciation I have for
those who "trim" their posts by deleting all but the crux of the quoted
text to which they are replying. It makes reading the digest version
much easier!! :)
