upon who the sub is and their qualifications, tech or no tech. For exampl=
e, a science lab might not happen if we don't get a science-experienced sub=
.
Here's what we do with substitutes in terms of technology:
+We don't give regular subs computers to use (long-term subs receive the co=
mputer the teacher they're replacing would normally use), but all of our st=
udents are 1:1, so teachers can use student machines to project, demonstrat=
e, model, etc. =20
+Teachers often suggest a student whose computer a sub should use. If the =
sub is experienced, it might be with a child who needs extra guidance. If =
the sub isn't, it might be with a stronger student.
+If I'm available, I try to stop in and check on the sub to make sure they'=
re ok with the tech being used. If the teacher doesn't have a solid plan f=
or the sub, I do my best to improvise one that supports the lesson. As a t=
ech coordinator, I may not be a content expert in all areas, but it is my r=
esponsibility to have a basic familiarity with most of the units my teacher=
s teach in each content so that I'm able to support learning using the tool=
s to which teachers and students have access. This really comes in handy w=
hen a teacher has an emergency and lesson plans need tweaking for the situa=
tion.
