We do not have an awards assembly at the end of the year, or any other
time for that matter. It has been part of the school philosophy since its
founding that such things were inappropriate for elementary and middle
school (and, I would argue, high school as well). We do a lot of
celebrating of student accomplishments but not in the context of an
"award." I worked in other schools were awards assemblies were common,
and I'm thrilled to be away from that culture. It's very refreshing.
