-Is it strictly owned, controlled, and managed by your Communications dept?
No, ownership and overall control remains with the IT department. We have a
marketing person (shared 50-50 with the firm we use for marketing) as the
overall content manager to ensure that the language is the same throughout
the website and also matches what is in our print material. She also
controls the overall message of the site.
IT's role is mostly the technical functionality of the site, training users,
and backing up content editors.
-Does the Academic Administration have the opportunity to alter the site?
Not right now, but that may change this summer as we look to let others
write content with the marketing person proofreading all the content.
-How much of a role does the internal Tech staff have with the website?
See above...mostly just the technical side to things. It has worked out
great so far.
-Do you employ a FT/PT webmaster?
Our marketing person basically handles that role. I think her official title
is "Media Specialist." She is only 50% time with us, but also accessible
when she's not technically working for us.
-Who within the school attended training on how to utilize the CMS?
We are rolling it out to teachers now so they can manage their own sites.
Over the summer we will look at giving others access, and handle the
training one on one.
The one big thing that is a help for us with FinalSite is the difference
between "saving" and "publishing." We are all in favor of letting others
write content and just "save" it, which means it is written but not on the
live site. Our inclination is to let people save content, but then leave it
to the "media specialist" to publish (make it live on the site).
