I wanted you to know about a very special event this July.
Constructing Modern Knowledge is a four-day immersive minds-on
institute during which educators from around the world gather to
collaborate and create wondrous technology-rich projects. CMK offers a
playful rich environment in which you can develop your technology
skills, become reacquainted with your creative spark and spend time
with some of the most powerful thinkers of our time.
Too many "edtech" events focus on high-tech skills and fads while the
progressive education community might not give much thought to
powerful learning opportunities afforded by the constructive use of
computers. Constructing Modern Knowledge is like no other professional
learning event in that it offers a fertile creative project space and
the time required to learn new tools while recognizing that we stand
on the shoulders of giants. Sustaining edtech innovation in schools
requires a solid foundation in the "unplugged" progressive education
traditions.
That's why at CMK 2009, collaborative project development is
interrupted by occasional conversations about learning, teaching and
computing.
The CMK 2009 faculty includes MacArthur Genius and small schools
pioneer, Deborah Meier; legendary author of more than 40 books on
education, Herbert Kohl; Brian Silverman, the man who helped create
countless software learning environments including LogoWriter,
MicroWorlds, programmable LEGO and Scratch; Logo co-inventor Cynthia
Solomon; Gary Stager; Sylvia Martinez and John Stetson. Best-selling
children's book author, illustrator, animator and software designer
Peter Reynolds will host a reception at the storied FableVision
Studios to kickoff the "Big Night Out in Boston."
Each CMK 2009 participant receives a suite of open-ended creativity
software from Tech4Learning, LCSI and Inspiration Software for their
use at Constructing Modern Knowledge and beyond.
Spend four cool summer days in New England making puppets roar, robots
dance, animations delight, movies move, simulations stimulate, photos
sing and leave with memories to last a lifetime!

information. Enrollment is limited.
