grades online from school or at home. Our proofing process is
encapsulated in that system so other teachers can view each other's
comments as they come in and attach notes to those comments as part of
the review process. This grew out of frustration with our previous
systems.
If you are looking for a drop in system for that sort of thing, check
out Orcas they'll host the whole system (you can also host it if you
prefer) and they are quite accommodating towards meeting your needs as
they are just starting out. They are also focused on the small
independent school market which is somewhat lacking (in my opinion).
I've spent some time talking with them and they have a really good thing
going.
Their site: http://www.ravennasolutions.com/ The whole system ends up
online, hosted by them and parents can get to their students grade
reports remotely, teachers can enter grades remotely. If they had been
around five years ago, we wouldn't have built what we have now.
I did a bit of consulting with them on their review process setup (so I
obviously am biased towards it) and it is as flexible and customizable
as I've seen (keeps each version of the report, allows commenting on the
report at various permission levels, etc). Since everything is in the
system the whole time you can track statuses pretty well too.

Full disclosure: I have worked with them so I am biased in the sense
that I know a lot more about their product and I believe in it. I also
can give you pretty specific answers regarding what is and isn't
possible in their review system, as that's primarily what I was involved
with, if anyone wants to email me outside of this thread
(jbriggs@eastsideprep.org or jonathan.briggs@gmail.com ) I'd be happy to
answer questions. =20

We use Senior Systems. Teacher write comments in Word then cut and
paste into SS. We then print by teacher for Dept Chairs to read and by
student for advisors to read. 48 hrs later, teacher corrections are due
in the database. Division directors take the next print out home and
read by student (as this is the way the parents and students will read)
and catches any unmade corrections or corrects any late entries. It
isn't perfect, but it does give each entry 3 reads and it gets comments
home in about a week.
Hope it helps -- Stacey

We use a Filemaker solution for grades and comments. Currently the
faculty get tab files of students, import them, write grades and
comments, email the export back to the office. The sticking point is
proofing. We would like the associate heads to read all the comments by
student. We would also like the comments to be proofed by ?? and then
returned to the teacher for corrections. It seems that we are doing a
very convoluted and redundant job of writing, exporting, emailing,
importing into Filemaker, printing, proofing, sending back to teachers,
and starting all over again.
How do you manage proofing of grades and comments at your school?
Thanks,
