School Partnerships with Planning Agencies

We're exploring the development of an urban planning project with urban
minority youth in an area fraught with gang activity. It is currently a
pilot with the Ulster County Planning Department and the Parson's School
of Design.

The students would work under the aegis of community based organizations
after school as video ethnographers working to help community members
tell their story and inform a comprehensive planning process. Outcomes
would include community service, violence prevention, workplace
readiness, media production, and citizenship.

We're looking for partner schools that might have done something similar
and could provide models and student and faculty mentors.

Do any of you have teachers who have involved students in community
planning? There's a block grant associated with this, with potential
funding for a partner school.

We are using Adobe Connect for remote collaboration now, but will likely
expand to Drupal and Moodle as we involve new institutions.

In hopes we are not inventing any wheels. I know the School for the
Physical City used to do this sort of thing
