One thing I have learned from years of mass mailings is that you do not wan=
t to send them from your own accounts. Obviously, I don't know whether your=
mailings include tens, hundreds, or thousands of emails, but I will propos=
e that not only do you not want to use your own email address, you don't wa=
nt to use your own email server. I have had trouble in the past where an or=
ganization's Exchange, GroupWise, or whatever server was blacklisted by spa=
m filters because it overran a rate limit somewhere along the line. Has any=
one on this list suffered that problem?
With that in mind, I would recommend that mass mailings be sent out at leas=
t from generic accounts separate from your own. Even better would be to hav=
e a separate server dedicated to mailing lists, such as ListManager, Majord=
omo, GNU Mailman, etc. I do realize many schools can't do this due to limit=
ed resources.
Whatever path you choose, you can configure the rules and reply-to addresse=
s to deal with the inevitable bounce backs, out-of-office messages, and leg=
itimate replies. Someone will need to check those generic accounts for any =
problems that may have occurred (for example, Exchange public folders work =
well for this) or have their own accounts cluttered with the bounce backs a=
nd return messages.

Subject: Blast Emails
I know this topic came up earlier, but I am curious to know. Do you =20
have a separate account for blast emails? or is it sent out of an =20
administrators account? What do you do with the replies?
Currently, I send out the emails and I get several replies (beyond the =20
out of office) with questions I do not know answers too.
Any insight would be wonderful.
