Christian,

How is using an iPad as another tool to educate children "buying into the
instant gratification of consumerism"? I don't think anyone is advocatin=
g
using the iPad as the only form of instruction, having students sit eight
hours a day using them. Yes, the battery lasts a full day, but this does
not mean it will be used everyday or all day. There are many thinking an=
d
active problem solving apps on the iPad. Have you ever played Sets with
cards (over 25 awards including a Mensa award)? Try playing it on the
iPad.

It is our job as educators to be open to change, test it and use
technology as a tool. What you say bothers me not because I see truth in
it, but because it advocates a closed minded approach to educating our
children. Maybe the iPad isn't right for you and the courses you teach,
but having used it with elementary age children I don't question the valu=
e
it adds and I don't debate its value because I've seen it reinforce
concepts, build creativity and inspire exploration.

Going back to an earlier post, I would love to see the list of 50+
applications Susan tested on the device with some indication of what are
keepers and what you won't do again.
