Re: Websense vs Baracuda web filter

I've used both products and have found Barracuda to be far and away the eas=
ier product to manage and maintain, and far more reliable. It is also much=
less expensive for annual maintenance--you should recoup the purchase pric=
e of the Barracuda fairly quickly. The only reason I would use Websense is=
if I needed off-site filtering of student laptops. Barracuda does not hav=
e a solution for that. I have sometimes had a problem with false positives=
with the Barracuda, but their support is excellent, and they have addresse=
d the issue promptly.

Subject: Websense vs Baracuda web filter

Our Websense license needs to renew by the middle of this month. I have bee=
n advised to switch to a Baracuda web filter solution. The rationale is tha=
t it is both a hardware and software solution that will enhance our network=
performance. Other advice suggests moving the Websense to it's own server =
so it can function more efficiently. It currently shares an server with bot=
h the antivirus server and secondary DNS server.

The Baracuda solution is 3x the cost of the Websense renewal.=20

I would appreciate any insights, experiences, etc.

Thanks. Happy 4th !
