Job descriptions may not fully describe the true responsibilities in a
school. In a small school, the Director of Tech could be the
technician,
system administrator, network administrator, consultant, and director.
While in a bigger school with the person with the same title, the person
could just oversee his staff and seek out ways make the school better
without getting their hands dirty.
At MPH, we have a Director and Network admin. We share all the tech
responsibilities equally, but as a director I have the added
responsibility
of planning and foresight.
What the titles appear to me...
> Tech Support Specialist
Help desk person, PC/Mac tech. Typically a hero when the tech is able
to
fix something within the first 5 minutes of class time.
> Technology Integrator
> Technology Coordinator
> Director of Academic Technology
> Academic Technology Coordinator
Someone who helps teachers integrate technology into the curriculum.
Knows
software really well (Word, Excel, Powerpoint), but hardware
troubleshooting
may not be a strong point. Sometimes, this person also acts as a
technician.
> Associate Director of Technology
A person in a big enough school to have an associate director. Probably
a
high level person in a particular school in a school district.
> Director of Technology
Person who enhances the school environment through technology, planning,
and
foresight. This person loves to seek out ways to make the school
better.
