I agree with a great deal of what you all are offering, and particularly=20
Joe's comments... Internet safety is definitely not a one shot deal. I thin=
k=20
schools need to look closely at the digital literacies/ values they want to=
=20
develop in their school communities and map out when and where these=20
literacies should be addressed in terms of time commitments and=20
developmental appropriateness. Let's look at this stuff from a long range=
=20
perspective and plan for it; let's also teach things in context. This is wh=

I'm such a fan of the School at Columbia's social networking initiatives.=

They are digging in with the kids and teaching them how to use digital tool=

appropriately within an academic context.=20
On a related note, last summer I started working on a project with a few=20
others to encourage educators to think about student personal learning=20
networks. We strongly felt that there were certain elements that should be=
=20
introduced to students at various points in their academic careers. We=20
haven't done much since with this space, but you may find some material in=
=20
here that's helpful: http://studentpln.ning.com/. Hopefully, we'll grow it=
=20
when we find more time.=20
Also, this is a book that I used when I was in the classroom. I thought it=
=20
was very useful, =C2=A0but I think it's a bit out of date. It might make a =

resource is anyone is thinking about how to incorporate internet safety int=

their school's curricula:=20
