THE POSITION
The Lower School Principal will report to Jonathan Cannon, Head of School, =
and will supervise and lead the day-to-day management of the school=92s K-6=
faculty and staff. The Principal will be responsible for ensuring that th=
e School=92s vision and mission of providing an outstanding Jewish and secu=
lar education for its students is implemented and accomplished. The Princi=
pal will have primary responsibility for curricular management and developm=
ent, planning, teaching practice, and maintaining educational standards. T=
he Principal leads the Lower School administrative team that includes the A=
ssistant Principal & Director of Judaic Studies, Assistant to the Principal=
, Math Coordinator and the Grade-Level Directors. The Director of Admission=
s and Director of Educational Support Services also serve on this team.
As part of Senior Management, the Principal will participate in school-wide=
management, strategic planning, policy planning, budgeting and long-term g=
oal-setting.
The Lower School Principal will be a caring, skilled and experienced educat=
or, capable of leading a large, complex school and advancing the School=92s=
commitment to providing an inspired and secure learning environment. The =
ideal candidate will have experience in elementary school teaching, educati=
onal administration and school management, curriculum development, supervis=
ion and evaluation of faculty and staff, Jewish education, and will have an=
advanced degree. Candidates must have a demonstrated track record of buil=
ding meaningful and responsive relationships with the key school constituen=
cies of students, faculty, staff and parents.
OUR SCHOOL
The Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School (CESJDS) of Greater Washington, loca=
ted in Rockville, Maryland, is one of the best known, most prestigious inde=
pendent Jewish community day schools in the world. With approximately 1,30=
0 students from kindergarten through twelfth grade, CESJDS is also one of t=
he largest pluralistic community day schools in North America. The School =
follows a dual curriculum of general and Judaic studies and maintains a com=
