Re: tablets and a question

Mr. Campion,

We explored several tablet PC's for use in our physics and math classes. To
get started, I purchased five different models and let the students and
teachers use them in class. They gave their comments/recommendations on the
various aspects of each model they liked to the IT Dept. The IT Dept then
looked for those products that incorporated those sought-after qualities for
the best price.

The products are changing so quickly I would say the answer to your first
question is that there is no "best"; it depends on the specific use of the
unit. For example, we found a very good Lenovo model that did not have an
integral CD drive. At first we did not consider this as a viable choice,
but based on our trial period, we realized we didn't need the drive.

In our case, the students/teachers gave the IT Dept their recommendations
and the IT Dept did the search for a model that best met the parameters. We
then ran the selected model back through the teachers for their comments. I
made the final decision.

Subject: tablets and a question

I am working with our Physics teacher on a replacement device for his
lab. His choice is a tablet PC for the integration of hand written
formulas into a lab report. I prefer to BootCamp a Macbook . We need a
Windows OS for Interactive Physics which does not exist as a native OS
X application. We have 50 Macbooks used heavily in our bio and chem
labs so we have proven lab solution.

2 questions:

1) What is the best tablet PC for school use ?

2) Our Principal asked the question : who makes the decision about
what to purchase ? The support staff(which includes me) or the end
user(the teacher) ?

thanks
