Re: Technology Professional Development

We have been offering adult education classes in various formats for 3
years now. Topics have included varying levels of Outlook, Excel, Word,
and PowerPoint. We have also offered basic computer use classes as well
as a class on how to maintain your home computer. In addition we also
give a number of classes on operation specific software such as Senior
Systems and Blackboard. I survey the community for feedback as to the
topics they would like to have covered. These classes have been very
successful and we have noticed a significant decrease in helpdesk calls.
These classes are offered to faculty and staff. They are taught by
members of the Department of Technology. We tend to front load the
offerings at the beginning of the school year. Our goal is a couple of
hours a week of instruction, but due to time restrictions it can be
tough. For the first time we have a full time integration person, and
it will be her responsibility to oversee and ramp up this program. =20

This program has been excellent for getting the users who are a little
behind up to speed. =20

Hi everyone,

I apologize if this is a repeat posting. I'm still scouring the ISED web
archives.

I'm wondering what everyone is doing with technical training, as well as
technology integration work. We're interested in offering periodic
training to our faculty and staff on technical skills, such as using
Office, e-mail, web browsers, our SIS, etc.=20

We'd also like to help teachers learn more about integrating technology
into the classroom, with the assistance of our technology coordinators.

I'd love to know if you're doing anything like this and if so, what
topics/programs you're teaching, how often you're teaching them, how
effective it's been, and just information on anything else you've
encountered.=20

I'll continue to scour. There is some good stuff on Ning too. :-)

Thanks.
