I'm in a similar situation. We have the Sony DCR-SR82. It's a very =
nice camera but mpeg-2 format does not allow for it to be imported to =
MM. Also, the Sony software is weak by comparison. I can import the =
files into pinnacle but my preference is to use MM for an introduction =
to Digital Video unit for my MS Computer class. =20
I'm most liking moving back to the minidv format rather than the HD b/c =
I can also capture streaming footage over firewire.

Try using Moviemaker to capture the video. I'm on a Mac right now so I =
can't
give you the exact steps, but I think it's File/Capture Video (after you
first connect the camera to the computer). If you're still looking for a =
new
camera, I like the Panasonic 3-CCD cameras (e.g., PV-GS320). The have a =
good
quality image and a USB port. The only thing I wish they had is a =
external
microphone input.
