My title is "Director of Academic Technology." I teach, assist teachers
with curriculum integration, and design and implement technology staff
development. I am considered a teacher, but walk the fine line between
teacher and administrator (I'd say 80/20 teaching/administration
duties). It is a 10 month contract, although after 5 years here, I am
requesting an additional 20 days this summer.=20
Originally, my position was a 12 month contract but, when I started
here, I had a 1 year old and was coming from being a classroom teacher
and valued my summers off. I now have a 5 year old and a 2 1/2 year old
and still love having my summers off, but the job is becoming too large
to handle along with a full teaching schedule without some summer work
days.
We also have a "Director of Information Technology" who is responsible
for maintaining the network, servers, hardware, etc. that is a 12 month
contract.
Good luck with this switch! If you have additional questions, feel free
to ask on or off list.

Subject: Thoughts on Job Switch?
Hello Colleagues,
I am wondering if any of you have wrestled with the possibility of
changing job titles/duties? I am considering a move from Director of
Technology to Integrations Specialist if the powers will allow.
My questions are these,=20
has anyone else out there done this and how did it go?
would doing this be considered a step down or across?
would/should I expect a pay decrease?
do you Tech Integration Specialists out there work a 10 month
teacher
contract or a 12 month staff contract?
My reasons for thinking about this in case that helps with advice are
the
following.
i would like to spend more time with my two young and (1) health
challenged children.=20
summers off would rock
i find that being Director has made me type in bulleted lists
too much.
tech integration is what I love, being the director was the only
choice
when i started here.
Any other thoughts on this would be greatly valued. =20
Thanks for all your thoughts on the matter, as always.
