I think the link Alex was trying to give you was this one:=20
http://escholarship.bc.edu/cgi/query.cgi . You should find two articles
that may help you in stating your case. =20
I've found that kids at the middle school age are just sponges when it
comes to technology. They already know quite a bit about computers and
the internet. So at this time it's good for them to put a more
constructive use of technology in play. Technology can be an attraction
(ie. "cool"), but that only helps engage your students. The use of
technology can be as a tool to grasps a concept or can be another way to
demonstrate knowledge of a concept. There are so many possibilities
with technology. =20
As for use in a math classroom there are plenty of ways that a
tablet/tech can help. Where else can you see the outcomes of two
columns of numbers and their products instantaneously (using excel and
graphs). You can make several changes and then see the effect through
the use of graphs all at the touch of a few buttons. Or you can use my
new favorite math website www.thatquiz.com for practice or tests, which
can only happen with all students having access to the internet. =20
Technology isn't just the new wave, it's the now. =20
This teacher sounds a bit uncomfortable or afraid of technology. It's
not a valuable resource unless the knowledge of what it does and how to
apply it is there. =20
I hope this helps in some way. =20
