Re: Using Flickr/Picassa in Schools

Hi Everyone,

We use Picasa a lot at our school. I set up Picasa Web for most of my =
teachers because I can keep them logged in, so all they have to do to =
share pictures is click the web link after choosing the album to upload. =

The teachers tend to use it in two ways:
1. Sharing pictures with parents - They upload them in unlisted mode, =
and email the web address to their parents.

2. They upload pictures they want students to use in a given project. =
This is especially helpful with K-2 students, as all pictures they might =
need are at one place. These are uploaded in public mode, so the Picasa =
web address can easily be shared once with teh kids, and they go to the =
same place for every project.

Teachers are free to use whatever online picture service they want, and =
a few use flickr and smugmug. I just chose Picasaweb as non-techie =
teachers were having the most success with it.

I would love to hear back from anyone who is using a Flickr (or Picassa)
account for their school, whether as an image archive solution or as a =
way
to share school photos with parents (or both). Obviously, we are
considering this.

I'd particularly like to know what policies and procedures you have
developed for accessing the site and uploading photos and whether you
created one or more Flickr groups (I'm not sure if there is an =
equivalent
in Picassa).

Thanks in advance for any shared wisdom.

All the best, Joe Peacock
