local community issues. One of these is an influx of kids from untaxed
independent school property into the local public school system. There isn't
really any data or any way to anticipate, but he is trying to develop a
ballpark figure, based on what other schools are experiencing now. Any
methodology will be flawed, but any methodology will be a start as he
explores the wonderful world of PILOTS (payments in lieu of taxes) , SILOTS
(services in lieu of taxes), and community relations.
So--this question is mostly for those of you in boarding schools:
1) How many full-time faculty and staff households of all ages and family
situations reside on your campus or in school-owned (and presumably
tax-exempt) housing?
2) How many children of faculty and staff are enrolled local PUBLIC schools?
Rough estimates will do here; the larger the sample, the better the data.
The idea is to come up with something like a ratio that can be used to
generate an approximation.
This new school has a highly specialized and righteous purpose, and any
assistance you might be able to offer would be greatly appreciated and earn
good karma.
As is so often the case, off-list responses are preferable here.
Thanks in advance--Peter Gow
