We went through this process a year or two ago for similar reasons -
when we told Symantec we were going to jump ship because of cost and
resource use, they lowered the price dramatically and informed us that a
new version was being released that took up less resources. We have
stuck with them and it worked out. However, we were looking at NOD32 and
Sophos. There are several websites out there that may help in the
decision but this one seemed to be pretty good:

Subject: Anti-Virus
Hello All-
I'm sure this is a repeat of a conversation had on the list before,
however, my school is looking to switch from Symantec Endpoint to
something else. I was wondering what anti-virus software people are
using. We have about 250 computers and are looking for something to be
hosted on our servers. Symantec, as you know, is very pricy and just a
hog on the client computers. We were told that AVG enterprise works
quite well, but I figured I would get everyone's opinion first. Feel
free to email me off list to share your experiences and opinions.
Thanks,
Tim
