summer when I'm creating the accounts for new students and faculty.
It gives the former folks time to send out notices and receive work
related emails but also gives them a deadline to do it. They can
request an extension or for their mail to be forwarded if they need to
hang onto things a bit longer.
There are a couple of reasons for deleting accounts. Our major ones
were the limit on the number of licenses we had on our Firstclass
server and the other was that we didn't want people no longer part of
our organization sending out emails from our domain. I'm sure the
legal types can chime in on this. We also wanted to reduce the hard
disk/tape space used on by our email system. Over a span of about 5
years we had almost 50% turnover in our faculty. Accounts can add up
quickly.
