I don't see your email here to reply off-list, so I'll answer briefly.
First, you may want to consider LM-Net, a listserv for just school
library folk. Additionally, ALA/AASL has a section for Independent
School librarians which is very fun and very active, a fabulous network
to add to your arsenal of resources. We just met in Anaheim during Ala
last week - old friends and new ideas. We've been collaborating on a
PGP for NAIS, which we hope will be accepted in the fall. And, there is
AISL, in independent group with a listserv of private school librarians
with overlap to ISS but a smaller membership and mission.
I just began the process of compiling a book about independent school
libraries and librarians, which won't really help your paper but is an
exciting prospect as there has been nothing in print for 20 years.
I hope to hear from you again and will further consider how to answer
your questions.

Subject: help requested on school librarianship
Hello all: I am currently a grad student in library and information
sciences at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. I also am an
assistant middle school librarian at an independent school in Milwaukee.
This summer I have to write a paper on school libraries and
librarianship. In the paper I have to look at school librarianship and
discuss the following:
-Assess and articulate professional development goals and activities
associated with this specialty;
*Identify a current skill set (managerial, personnel management,
technological, etc.) for this profession currently;
* Analyze the challenges and problems facing this specialty; and
* Assess the prospects for this specialty for the foreseeable future.
If any of you have suggestions or specific examples about any of these
topics, please let me know. My biggest question is what are your
present challenges, and which is the most pressing, worrisome, etc. ?
If you want to reply, please let me know what school you work at and
your number of years of service.
I look forward to hearing from anyone willing to help.
