Global Youth Leadership Institute (GYLI), a school-based leadership
organization, will offer its first program for middle school students and
teachers this summer. The Middle School Leadership Institute (MSLI) is a
five-day program that will take place from August 12 - August 16, 2008 at
Pine Point School in Stonington, CT. GYLI is inviting school groups of 2-5
students (entering 7th or 8th grade) and 1-2 teachers from any school in the
USA or abroad.
The MSLI will focus on:
- hands-on science activities available at Pine Point School that promote
care for the environment, such as water-quality research in local rivers,
use of the on-site astronomical observatory, and study of dolphin behavior
using innovative technology
- aspects of personal identity such as race, religion, and culture, using
the nearby Mashantucket Pequot Museum's exhibit on race as a framework
- active hands-on science work and group leadership skills, during our day
of sailing aboard a tall ship at Mystic, CT
GYLI is a national leader in summer leadership institutes for high schools.
We currently serve over 25 schools nationwide, and in 2008 will offer nine
high school institutes. GYLI is collaborating with NAIS to develop and
deliver the 3rd annual Institute for Student Leaders (ISL) this year in
Costa Rica.
Please contact the GYLI office or visit the GYLI website www.gyli.org
