Re: Tom Sawyer

I agree with that, though I maintain it's not a great piece of
literature. The question, however, was weather to use it with fifth
graders. I have bright 4th and 6th graders at my house, and I don't
think they're sophisticated enough for that discussion in that context.
In other contexts, absolutely, but this is a piece of literature Twain
wrote for adults, not fifth graders. We need to distinguish between the
value of the topic and the means of teaching the topic.
