=A0I=92m
following them closely so you don=92t need to send again if you=92ve =
already
posted in response to Keith=92s question. =A0My question is SLIGHTLY =
different
though...
We're looking to replace our POP3 email.=A0 Criteria for the new =
solution:=20
1) be globally available - same mailbox no matter how my staff access =
it,
such as IMAP; 2) include shared calendaring; 3) be secure; 4) not =
require a
full-time position to manage; 5) be reasonably priced; 6) be fast enough =
and
'modern' enough that staff won't resist.=A0 Based on some friendly =
advice from
this list I've reduced our list to Zimbra, Ipswitch's iMail Server =
Premium,
and Google Apps for Education.=A0 I'm seeking answers to two questions:
A) What specific positive/negative experiences have any of you had with =
ANY
of these products?=A0=20
B) (and this is the biggie) Since Google Apps/Ed is **FREE** WHY WOULD =
ANY
SCHOOL-WITH-A-LIMITED-BUDGET CONSIDER ANYTHING ELSE?=A0 What are the =
good
arguments against Google Apps (other than the gut instinct that Google =
is
taking over the world)?=A0 I know plenty of schools are using it and =
(from the
postings on this list) it appears that many are happy. =A0I also see =
that
plenty of schools aren=92t choosing Google. [I noted that yesterday=92s =
gmail
thread included some discussion re Google=92s privacy policies. =A0I =
wonder if
any of us has authoritative knowledge/experience beyond their privacy =
policy
(subject to change).] =A0
Re: Postini =96 We use Postini as a spam/virus filter and it is a great
service. =A0But it is particularly useful for us because it 1) scans =
emails
before they even reach our servers and 2) caches emails if there is a
temporary problem with our email servers. =A0I=92m not certain you=92d =
exactly get
those benefits with a gmail account, but I guess it wouldn=92t be your =
servers
anyways. =A0Gmail says they provide spam/virus filtering but how good is =
it?
=A0What happens to filtered emails?=A0 Do you have a quarantine folder
someplace?]
Please feel free to respond on- or off-list.
