Curious About Cloud Computing?

All, I've been watching a new class that UC Berkeley has put together,
an introduction to computer science... This week's presentation on cloud
computing is really good (at least in my opinion; but I'm a bit biased since
I was working at Sun with UCB as one of my partner schools). If you are
curious about the roots of cloud computing, a bit nerdy (want to know a
bit more about what's under the covers), and get 50 spare minutes,
watch the presentation - it's lecture 20 at:

One exaggeration I found (again imo) was regarding the Sun trailer-thing.
Every time I see/hear a reference to it, it's like as if they are delivered
the
thing like those containers you get delivered to your home for putting stuff
in storage. Although I wasn't with Sun at the time, I was teaching my
BFOIT class when the trailer was installed in back of the CS Soda Hall.
It's NOT a trivial installation; I have pics of the thing and it's not like
you
drop it off and plug it in - wish I could attach one...

In any case, it is a great overview of how far we've come with computing as
a utility, like cable tv service, electricity, etc... At Sun we were talking
about
this all the time in the late 90s... guess change is slower than we think.
