We use Postini anti-spam and archiving with Google Apps email and it works
great. If you already use Postini than you won't notice any difference using
it for Google email as it works the same. We route both outbound and inbound
email through Postini so our archive is complete including email sent
between users.
Google email spam works the same as a standard Gmail account spam and is
completely separate from Postini. However, with Postini I rarely see spam in
my Google spam folder so I can't say how well it works. The Postini feature
is very reasonably priced so I highly recommend it especially since you
already know how to manage it.
We also looked at Zimbra but I chose Google Apps both because I have more
confidence that Google Apps is here to stay and because I wanted a hosted
solution with a provider I could count on. While we don't turn POP or IMAP
off, we discourage them by not supporting them. Not having to support email
clients easily save us as much time as not having to manage an email server.
Also, users tend to be confused by POP and IMAP especially when they want to
access their email from multiple devices. One of the major benefits of
switching to Google for us has been ubiquitous access from any computer or
almost any device which is most seamless when using the Google web app and
device clients.
