We also use Remote-learner as our host. I agree with Ken for all of the r=
eason's given--use an ASP. I also hosted Blackboard internally prior swi=
tching to Moodle. A few of the teachers were upset with the decision, but=
doing so reduced our costs substantially and also reduced the amount of =
time we spent on maintenance. (This was also part of our strategy to outs=
ource almost everything and just focus on services that must be hosted on=
campus.)

While I zipped up all BB courses and had them available, all of our teach=
ers elected to just upload everything again, which is the path that I rec=
ommend. Converting courses to make them closely mirror the structure in B=
B when moving them is very expensive (1 to 3 hours per course).=20

Value from the ASP--troubleshooting, backups, reliability since hosted of=
f campus, no deep voodoo required, etc. You do need to make sure you hav=
e good bandwidth, though.
