Re: Professional Development Related to Information Technology

I agree with Demetri that Kris's list of desired traits and habits of
mind for the tech integrator is very complete and accurate.=20

But even with the ideal individual, certain elements need to be present
in the school's culture. First of all, I think teachers and
administrators must value experimentation and risk-taking. It takes a
leap of faith to do something in a new way, especially if the way you've
always done it has been successful. There has to be a desire and
encouragement to change, to teach in ways that may be messy but more
relevant to today's students.=20

Secondly, I think the school culture must also value collaboration. If
teachers have experienced the strength and power of working with a
colleague or a team to design and/or evaluate lessons, they are more
open and willing to partner with others, in particular, a tech
integrator or librarian. Important here is trust and, more mundane,
scheduling.

My two cents...

I think Kris nails it with his list of desired traits for the technology
integrator position which are aligned with Dan Pink's right-brainedness.
I added them to the job description on the wiki. This and several other
job descriptions have been synthesized there:
http://schoolcomputing.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Job_Descriptions Until
recently, these were all on one page, but we're now using the "Category"
feature of the wiki to keep them organized but on separate pages. In
particular, see:
