Re: Professional Development Related to Information Technology

Pasted in below, is an example of a job description we have used in the
past for the Educational Technology Department. Many of these 'skills'
apply to the overall IT position as well. I presented, with a panel, on
this topic at NAIS last week. It is critically important to have
personnel in the IT department that are prepared to support teachers and
students. Other resources that might help in determining those skills
are the COSN Skills Framework
http://cosn.org/resources/cto_council/framework.cfm and Educational
Technology Standards and Performance Indicators for Administrators
http://cnets.iste.org/administrators/a_stands.html . Hope this is
helpful.

Educational Technology Job Description: "Candidates should have a
minimum of three years of K-12 classroom teaching experience. Candidates
should have first-hand in-depth experience with integrating technology
into a classroom curriculum and must be able to show their ability to
plan effective technology integration into many content areas.
Candidates must be competent in the use of a variety of software
packages. Candidates must have outstanding interpersonal skills.
Additional teaching experience in the K-12 classroom, in adult education
and advanced degrees are strongly preferred. These degrees may be in
Educational Technology or a related area. "

Hi Fred -

So what is the right skill set? I'd be curious as to the opinions of
people on this list on what makes a good teacher of teachers.

We are implementing a tech coaching model in our set of charter schools.
How many other schools are using this model or moving towards it? Do you
have a good job description for this type of position?

Thanks,
Lucy Gray
