Norman,

I recently saw an excellent presentation by Tim Fish at the NAIS
conference. It was about the many teachers at his school who are using
their tablet computers to make short instructional videos using
screen/voice capture software. What was most impressive to me was how
competent and comfortable the teachers appeared to be with the pen
interface of the tablet.

Bill Gates made it very clear in the interview he did last year with Walt
Mossberg and Steve Jobs that he believed the tablet interface was the
future of computing. Microsoft has probably put more of its creative
energies into the tablet software than any other area. I think any school
that is predominantly Windows based is missing the boat if they aren't
moving rapidly in the direction of tablets.

Apple has put most of their creative energy -at least on the software
side- into OS X, which has led to that operating system becoming really
excellent.

Please note that I'm not saying that tablets are better than laptops, or
vice versa, just that if you are using Windows the most creative and
innovative operating system developments seem to be related to tablet
computing.
