ed and can't fully "engage" at this time. A wiki would be good. I will leav=
e the group with just a few bullet points for consideration...
-Online teaching/learning is very difficult if there is a mismatch of stude=
nt to the online environment or if the teacher has little to no experience =
teaching/learning in an online environment.
-Online teaching (when done well) is VERY different than traditional classr=
oom teaching.
-Teachers who will teach online should take a well designed online course o=
r online program and perform successfully.
-There are more examples of how "not to teach" or design an online course t=
han those that are well designed
-There are many resources for learning to teach in an online environment...=
many groups.
-Online teaching and learning (when done well and well matched with the stu=
dent) can be equally if not more engaging than traditional classroom course=
s- but there are few of these in existence. However, if you want to give it=
a try, look into the OMET (Online Masters in Educational Technology) progr=
am through Pepperdine. It is approximately 80% at a distance and 20% f2f- a=
n incredible program but expensive.
-And... talking about budgets...Here is a place to get started if you are s=
erious about learning to design online programs/courses and how to teach on=
line. Books are expensive so I offer this link to a great FREE online book/=
resource Theory and Practice of Online Learning from Athabasca University (=
http://cde.athabascau.ca/online_book/contents.html). This is a great place =
to start if you want to get a look at underlying theories as well as some o=
f the business side of online learning programs.

http://www.eurodl.org/materials/contrib/2006/Christian_Dalsgaard.htm
http://ocw.mit.edu/OcwWeb/web/home/home/index.htm (not as an example of how=
to design online learning but as a great resource)
-Great conference on distance learning- TxDLA (Texas Distance Learning Asso=
ciation) http://www.txdla.org/
There is much more but this should get things rolling...

I didn't respond immediately because at this point, we offer no online cour=
ses. However, I completely agree that this is coming fast and I think that =
pooling resources as independent schools is a fantastic idea.
Perhaps, even if we don't offer any courses at the moment, we could set up =
a wiki for discussing ideas, logistics, etc. I'd be happy to set something =
up on PBWiki.
Any ideas, takers?
