Re: Anyone Using Gmail?

Hi all:

One other thought to consider: email archiving. There have been a lot of
messages over the past few years along the lines of "how long do we have
to keep our email?", etc. In the end, we found that as long as you have a
policy and /stick to it/ then you will be safe. Our policy states that we
keep email for 1 year from the date it was sent - no longer (unless asked
to by a court) and no shorter. That means if we were sued for some reason,
we would not be obligated to provide email from 18 months ago. Why? We
simply don't keep those and its stated in our policy.

However... if you are using Google Apps, guess who a smart attorney is
going to subpoena? Google. And you know they keep everything - even if
they tell you that they don't or if you can choose your archive window.

So, this might not stop a school from using Google, but it should
certainly be part of the equation when deciding on using their services.

My $.02.
