I'm leading a discussion around the book brain rules: 12 Principles for
Surviving at Work, Home, and School and would like to invite you to join
in. In the first chapter, "Rule #1: Exercise boosts brain power",
author, Josh Medina tells us that "Given the powerful cognitive effects
of physical activity..." getting rid of physical education and recess
make no sense. And that maybe school should follow the corporation trend
of putting treadmills and stationary bikes right in the immediate
workspace. For schools that means in the classroom.

And this is just the first rule. Others include, "We don't pay attention
to boring things." "Repeat to remember." and "Remember to repeat." This
is an interesting read and I can't wait to see how he reconciles the
rules of not being boring with needing repetition.

I'm very excited about leading this book talk. Much of the discussion
will be applicable to schools, teaching, and students whether you have
read the book or not. I hope you'll join us at
http://teacherplacesbookclubs.com.
