I am a huge Google Apps fan, but I think the formatting capabilities in
Google Docs are not very sophisticated... yet. While I have uploaded most of
my original Word docs to Docs and now originate most of my new files there
as well, I still like having Word for backup when I have formatting issues.
We also have Pages, and I'd keep Pages and ditch Word if I had to make a
choice. Keep in mind, too, that transitions and such in PowerPoint don't
translate to Google Presentations.
For me Google Apps is even more compelling because Google just announced
video sharing capabilities in the education edition. Apparently, it will
cost $10 per user, but I think that's reasonable considering there seems not
to be any great solutions to storing video for schools.
Take care,
