Re: ESL - English Language computer program recommendation

David -

If you are looking for help at the level of developing knowledge of
English sound/symbol correspondence and fluent command of the more
advanced levels of English phonology and phonics, the Lexia Learning
Systems software LEXIA READING v.5 is unrivaled. It has numerous
published peer reviewed studies verifying its superior performance in
schools from Massachusetts to Texas, and it has recently been given an
exceptionally high rating by FCCR (the Florida Center for Reading
Research) which subjects reading materials to lengthy and rigorous
evaluation by reading scientists.

LEXIA is designed to be used independently by the student at school
or at home to deliver the intensive structured practice needed to
internalize mastery of the complex English phonological system. It is
also designed to support the reading instruction systems used in most
major publishers' reading series. It incorporates a detailed
reporting system which enables teachers to know where the student
needs additional instruction and where he or she needs more practice.
The software incorporates an intelligent branching feature which
moves the student forward through the levels at his or her optimum
pace, and which also assesses error patterns to automatically cycle
the student back through elements which they have covered but are not
using fluently and accurately. One of its bonus features is that the
kids love using it. It can be used with kids from K-12.

If you are interested, check out their website : http://www.lexialearning.com/

BTW, they have a version with the audio instructions to the student in
Spanish.
