Calendaring and Space Reservation System

Hi all. I am curious to know what processes and/or software solutions
other schools are using for Campus Calendaring and Space Reservations.
Who manages your school's calendars? How many calendars does your school
maintain for school events and space reservations? Who is the
"gatekeeper" for space reservation requests? How do requests get
approved? Who puts them on the calendar? Is email involved? Is a
website involved? Is a piece of calendaring software involved?

Here at Galloway we have implemented a new campus-wide calendar system on
our website via a custom-tailored content management system. All members
of the community are able to request space reservations for any of our 9
events spaces, and all requests are marked as 'pending' (red font) until
the calendar approval meetings are held weekly. Approved events are then
marked as 'approved' (green font). When requesting a space, users are
able to select the various resources their event may need (everything from
chairs, to coffee, to projectors and laptops) and the system automatically
sends notification emails to tech support, maintenance staff, and theatre
crew as necessary given the resources needed. Maintenance crew is then
able to go into the calendar and print off formatted 'work order' style
tickets for each event's setup request.

Although the above sounds quite functional, it has some shortcomings. We
are trying to decide whether we are going to put more money into the
current system to make it exactly what we need, or if we are going to
scrap it and go with another solution altogether.

Thanks in advance for letting me know what processes your schools
use...both higher- and lower-tech solutions alike.
