and iMacs in my computer lab and in a few of the classrooms. I've been =
very pleased with it. I can do software updates, install software from =
my laptop, send documents to the computers from my computer, observe or =
control the lab computers and help students from my desk if they are =
having problems on their computers, lock the screens on all of the lab =
computers while I'm talking to the students, and can share my screen =
with them when I want to show them how something should be done. The =
best thing is being able to log out or shut down the computers from my =
laptop at the end of the day, which saves a lot of time. If I see a =
student not doing what he or she is supposed to be doing, I lock just =
that computer and send the student a message that he or she wasn't =
following directions. After doing that a couple of times, the students =
have learned to stay on task. I have also taken screen shots of what =
students are doing on their computers if I need evidence for some =
reason. =20
Our school is a Windows server environment, and we have an IT director =
who handles all our network, so I don't know if what I've told you is =
enough information or the right information. I don't have any problems =
seeing and using the network or posting grades to our server with my =
Macs. I don't deal with administering anything on the school network; I =
just handle what needs to be done in my lab and with the Macs in my =
building. =20
You're going to love the Macs and Remote Desktop. =20

Subject: Managing Macs in a Windows Environment
=20
We are just beginning a one to one program with our high schoolers using =
the
13" aluminum macbook. We are all very excited and can not wait to get =
these
in the hands of the students. I, on the other hand, come from a windows
networking world where everything from default printers to mapped drives =
to
advanced permissions is easily controlled by group policy and logon =
scripts.
I am starting off with apple remote desktop but I feel that I am missing
something. Those of you who are, or have been, in my situation, what do =
you
use to manage your macs??
Thank you so much in advance! Hope your school years have started out =
well!
